Tornado Fire Near Temecula: Swift Response Halts Blaze at 12 Acres |
Evacuation Warnings Issued and Lifted as Firefighters Contain De Luz Wildfire |
A brush fire erupted on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the De Luz area west of Temecula, prompting swift action from local firefighting units.
Dubbed the "Tornado Fire," the blaze ignited around 11:50 a.m. near the intersection of Via Tornado and Via Santa Rosa. Residents and commuters observed a significant plume of smoke rising above the hills, visible from the I-15 freeway and Old Town Temecula.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department dispatched multiple engine crews to the scene, encountering flames advancing at a moderate pace through medium brush. The fire's proximity to residential areas led to the issuance of evacuation warnings for zones RVC-2296 and TMC-2249. Old Town Temecula, situated downhill from the fire, was also placed under a temporary evacuation warning as a precautionary measure.
A robust aerial assault was launched, involving five Cal Fire air tankers and multiple water-dropping helicopters. These efforts were instrumental in halting the fire's forward progress by approximately 1:15 p.m., limiting the burn area to 12 acres. By 4 p.m., containment had reached 50%, with full containment anticipated later that evening.
The De Luz region, characterized by its rural-agricultural zoning and scattered residences, faced minimal structural threats due to the rapid response. No injuries were reported among residents or firefighting personnel. The cause of the Tornado Fire remains under investigation.
This incident underscores the importance of preparedness and the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response efforts in safeguarding communities from wildfire threats. |
