Trivia Questionâť“

In which year did the first winery in Temecula, CA open its doors?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Red wine goes back to Bible times.  It has been both celebrated and vilified for it's health benefits, or lack thereof. So what is the truth?  Let's take a look...

To produce red wine, winemakers ferment crushed grapes, including the grape skin.

The grape skin gives red wine some of its color and flavor, and tannins form during fermentation, giving the wine its bitter but pleasant taste. There is evidence that drinking red wine may offer health benefits, with some studies suggesting that it is healthier than white wine due to its higher antioxidant content.

Antioxidants found in red wine, such as polyphenols like resveratrol, may provide benefits for the brain, heart, and body. Different varieties of red wine grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel, and Pinot Noir, offer a range of flavors and pairings with various foods.

There are also dessert wines made from dried grapes that provide a deep sweetness. Red wine contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus.

The health benefits of red wine consumption include potential effects on blood pressure, heart health, cancer risk reduction, Alzheimer's prevention, and potentially lowering the risk of diabetes. However, it is essential to drink red wine in moderation, as excessive alcohol consumption can pose health risks such as wine allergies, liver damage, unwanted weight gain, increased risk of some cancers, and dependence.

Taking into account such moderation, a recent article in BoomerZone Magazine conquers that there are more health benefits to celebrate than there are risks.  In a recent article they shared the science of a combination of red wine, pure dark chocolate, and daily exercise, goes a long way towards staving off memory loss, including Alzheimer's and dementia.

So raise a glass to your brain health... yes... modestly.

The article discusses the recent opening of the Temecula Pickleball Complex, featuring 17 courts for players to enjoy.

The complex aims to promote the growing sport of pickleball, with players excited to test out their pickleball paddles in the new facility.

The facility's opening has created an encouraging mood among the pickleball community, as they look forward to sharing stories of their experiences on the courts.

With an informed tone, the article highlights the importance of the complex in expanding opportunities for players of all levels, showcasing its potential to become a hub for pickleball enthusiasts.

When hosting dinner parties, we always end up with a surplus of empty wine bottles.

Instead of recycling them, I decided to try my hand at painting them for fun.

There are a variety of options when it comes to painting wine bottles, and the possibilities are endless.

From acrylic paint to chalk paint to spray paint, there are many different types of paint that can be used.

Even sharpie markers can work well for stenciling designs onto the bottles. As someone with limited outdoor and indoor crafting space, I prefer to use non-toxic and easy-to-clean paints.

Some of my favorite paints for decorating wine bottles include Craftsmart assorted set, Folkart metallic acrylic paints, acrylic markers, and Folkart chalk paints.

These paints are affordable and easy to use, making them perfect for creating unique designs on wine bottles. One of the easiest and most cost-effective paints to use for painting wine bottles is acrylic paint.

It may take several coats to achieve the desired opacity, but acrylic works well for drawing detailed designs on the bottles.

To create intricate designs, I like to make a template out of vinyl and peel it off while the paint is still wet for a clean finish. Another method for painting wine bottles is to paint the inside of the bottle.

This creates a clean finish on the outside and works best with white wine bottles.

I prefer to use acrylic paint for this method because of its viscosity and easy dispensing.

Adding vinyl decals to the painted bottles can add a decorative touch. For a stained glass effect, try using Folk Art Frosted Glass Paint or creating a frosted effect with acrylic pasted frosting paint.

Spray paint can also be used for painting the outside of wine bottles, but I personally prefer using acrylic paint for more controlled and detailed designs on the bottles. Overall, painting wine bottles can be a creative and enjoyable way to repurpose empty bottles and add a personalized touch to decor.

With a variety of paints and techniques to choose from, the possibilities for decorating wine bottles are endless.
